Our Process
SOY WAX CANDLES
I always start my process beginning with prayer. After I pray, I like to turn on some upbeat smooth jazz music, gotta have that! I then begin to setup the melting pots, pouring pots, wax, scale, jars, wicks, thermometer, and sticky notes to write down wick sizes, date, time, and how much oil load I’m going to use as well as scent.
To start, I place my container on the scale to weigh out my oil load. I then place that to the side and begin to weigh out my wax. I then start to preheat, melting on warm and adding wax to pot gradually to begin what's called the "melting point.” This is the temperature at which a given solid will start to melt. Next, I write down the time that I started and the amount of oil that I will be adding to the wax. I typically do 1 to 1.5 per ounce of fragrance oils depending on fragrance mixture because it varies. Most of my oils hold up to 10% of its fragrance load. This is the recommended maximum amount of fragrance that a particular wax can retain. As the wax is melting I’m stirring continuously and checking temperature.
I now begin to wick the jar adding the toxin free adhesive and placing wicks in jars. Also, I place the wick bars in order to keep the wick centered and in place. By this time the wax is melted. Now I begin to pour the wax into the pot and place on the scale in order to make sure I have the correct amount. It’s important to make sure of this as the proper amount is needed in order to hold the oil. Next, I check temperature constantly until the wax reaches 180F before adding the oil. Making sure the temperature does not drop below 180F, because this can have an effect on the performance of the wax. Afterwards, I pour the oil in the wax at 180F and stir for one minute exactly. Then I begin to pour the wax into each jar slowly. This whole process is crucial. After that I pour oil into the wax and stir for another minute. This gets poured immediately into the jars.
It takes up to 3 hour for the candles to solidify and harden. Once that happens, the wick gets trimmed, the lid gets added and the jar is placed in a cool place away from direct sunlight and let cured for 2 weeks before burning. I typical make only a couple before making an entire batch, to make sure the wax passes the burn test. Once the test is completed, I use this formula for the rest of the larger batch.
